One day a bee was hovering above a majestic garden when he noticed a flower of unique and exquisite beauty, he was mesmerized, and all at once the other flowers in the garden seemed to vanish. The bee was drawn to this flower as if in a trance, but as he approached the flower closed her petals and would not allow him to come any closer.
‘You wish only to take from me’ replied the flower.
‘But we have just this moment met’ said the bee, ‘how can you speak of my intention?’
‘I have met others of your kind in the past’ the flower snapped in a somewhat harsh tone. ‘And I have welcomed them and unfolded my petals to them. They have spoken of their love for me and made promises of that which they wish to give me and I have opened my heart to them’
‘Surely this is a good thing’ the bee interjected.
‘yes, it would appear so, however on the self same day I have witnessed the bee that has confessed it’s eternal love for me, canoodling with the carnations and fraternizing with the frangipani’s, you’re type are not to be trusted’ said the flower as she folded her leaves across her stem.
‘I know that of which you speak’ said the bee ‘for I too have given my heart and soul to another, only to find that they have allowed others to partake of their nectar’
‘So why have you chosen to speak to me today’ the flower questioned, ‘when there are so many others in this garden to choose from’
‘I know not of what you speak’ the bee said perplexed, ‘for I see but one flower in this garden’
‘Then you are blind’ said the flower sarcastically as it turned to face the sun.
The bee hovered there for a while and wondered what could have caused this beautiful flower such pain, that she now hid her heart from the world.
‘May I come by and visit with you again tomorrow’ asked the bee hopefully,
‘Do as you please’ replied the flower nonchalantly
The bee returned to its hive and pondered his meeting with the beautiful flower, he wondered what force had drawn him to her and his mind was filled with thoughts and visions of her.
The next day the bee returned to the garden of the solitary flower and once again the flower closed her petals at his approach,
‘Why have you returned’ queried the flower
‘I wish to know you better’ replied the bee, ‘and although you shunned me yesterday and would not open your heart to me, I felt empowered in your presence’
‘And I suppose your blindness has returned’ said the flower sarcastically.
‘what you call blindness I call focused vision’ replied the bee ‘for the moment I saw you everything else seemed to became dull of colour and devoid of shape. I was entranced by the aura that surrounds you and my mind has been filled with visions of your splendor and my heart has been filled with hope and purpose since our first meeting’
‘and what is it you hope for?’ question the flower.
‘I hope only to know you and to give of myself to you. I wish to share with you what is in my heart and to show you that it is safe to unfold your petals and allow your inner beauty to shine’
The flower pondered the bee’s words for some time and her heart softened a little and she relaxed her petals
‘Will you come back to visit me tomorrow?’ the flower asked
‘I will return every day’ said the bee ‘and while I am away I will think of you, and at night when I sleep I will dream of you’
‘Then I shall look forward to seeing you tomorrow’ said the flower, her voice softer and more accepting now.
The bee felt overjoyed and as he left his wings made music on the air.
The next day the bee returned again to his new friend and as he approached she folded closed all but one of her petals, and the bee landed there and felt her softness and was mesmerized by her enchanting scent.
Day after day the bee returned to visit his new friend and they spoke of many great and wondrous things and day after day the flower softened and opened more of her petals, for she saw that the bee’s heart was true.
