The Artist and the Mist - by N Smart

Last night, in a dream, I found myself standing naked, encased in a cocoon of fog and mist. The cold hands of doom enveloped me and held me motionless for fear that I may fall from the clouds. Then the voice of the fog spoke to me and said,
‘Fear not the taking of steps nor your limited vision in this moment, for I am the blank canvas on which you may paint your future with the brushes and palette of your imagination’
‘And how do I do that?’ I questioned, and the fog spoke and said,
‘You are the creator of your own experience, simply close your eyes and imagine having that which you most desire and I shall be transformed by your will’
So I closed my eyes and imagined myself standing on the steps of my dream home overlooking the ocean. Yet upon opening them I saw nothing but fog and mist.
‘Why do you not give me that which I ask’ I said annoyed,
‘You ask with your words, yet the seeds of doubt grow fertile in your mind’ said the voice of the mist ‘you must ask with your mind and believe with your heart, for you cannot have that which you do not truly believe is possible’
‘And how can I believe that I may have everything I desire when I have no means by which to accomplish it?’ I asked
‘In this moment you may not believe that you can run a marathon yet in your heart you know that you can take one step’ said the mist ‘Each step forward is one step closer to your desires, a great artist does not paint a picture in an instant, instead he holds a vision of that which he wishes to create then applies paint to canvas with deliberate and controlled strokes, one after the other until his vision becomes reality. You must focus your thoughts on that which brings your mind and heart into unison, for an artist who doubts his ability will never create a masterpiece’
Then I closed my eyes again and imagined myself standing on the beach and when I opened them I heard the sound of waves and felt sand beneath my feet.
